Foods to Avoid While You Are Trying to Shed a Pound

You need to avoid many foods when trying to lose weight, and it requires a lot of patience to achieve a sexy physique. What are those? Some of them are highlighted below:

Beverages with Extra Amount of Sugar

While it is refreshing to drink fruit juices and sodas on a warm afternoon, it will ruin your diet for sure. Not only are they low in nutrients, but also high in added sugars. A 2015 study revealed that any sweetened beverage could cause weight gain in children, adolescents, and adults, of course. According to the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, every person only needs around 10% of sugar intake. What’s surprising is that an average American consumes approximately 17 teaspoons of sugar daily. If you are fond of drinking sodas and fruit juices (just like me), drink them in moderation. If possible, get rid of them in your diet.

Potato Chips and French Fries

Potatoes are packed with nutrients from calories, fat, protein, carbs, fiber, folate, niacin, phosphorus, magnesium, manganese, potassium, vitamin B6, to vitamin C. But potato chips and French fries are not. Who among you here loves to eat chips and fries while watching TV? Many of you would say yes. But when you are on a diet, avoid these snacks. A study suggested that frequent intake of potato chips and French fries has been associated with weight gain.

Cookies, Premade Desserts, and Pastries

After eating dinner, it is perfect to have some desserts. Again, it is a no-no, especially when you are on a diet. Desserts, pastries, cookies, and other baked foods are packed in added sugars like fructose. Research has confirmed that people who consume high fructose experienced more cravings. If you have some in your fridge, be patient and try not to eat any of them.

Fatty and oily foods are addicting. You are only human, after all. But when you are trying to shed a pound, hamburgers are not ideal to consume. Researchers have revealed that eating hamburgers twice a week can lead to an increased risk of obesity. But what if you cook your burger? It is a good idea. But be sure to avoid added oils or fats. Ground beef is still a healthful diet.

White Bread

It is satisfying to start the day with a cup of black coffee and white bread. Unfortunately, you cannot still do that when losing weight. White bread, for example, contains added sugar. Experts say it is packed with a glycemic index that can spike our blood sugar. But that does not mean you cannot eat your favorite bread. Instead of wheat bread, look for other alternatives.

White Pasta

White pasta is another food to avoid. Like white bread, it is made of refined wheat flour that has a high carb and calorie content. You can try whole-grain varieties of pasta as they contain more nutrients and fiber. So, before you add a portion of pasta to your cart, read the nutrition facts.

Candy Bars

What is your comfort food when you are stressed? Probably, it is a candy bar. It makes you happy every time you take a bite. However, it should not be in your diet, particularly when you are shedding a pound. Nutritionists say a candy bar is unhealthy. Aside from added sugar, it has a lot of refined flour and oils. You can consume some candy bars, however, when you need to exert extra effort at the end of the day.

Granola Bars

Granola bar contains protein and fiber. But they are rich in sugar as a candy bar. Healthful snacks and other alternatives include a hard-boiled egg, sliced apple with some peanut butter, mixed nuts, and Greek yogurt with berries.

After a long, stressful day in the office, it is nice to drink some alcohol at home. Excessive alcohol consumption, however, can impact your fitness goals. It is best to drink alcohol in moderation.

There you have it! How many of these foods do you love to eat? In my case, those are my favorites, making them overwhelming hard to avoid. But you do not have to quit them all at once. Do not pressure yourself! Take your time!
