During the pandemic, working from home came to fruition, and it has been a trend since 2020. When I heard that we needed to work from home, I was a bit excited. But as the new trend started, I was wrong. It’s hard and stressful. The number of pending paperwork kept increasing. The deadlines were difficult to reach, and I got anxious and overwhelmed quickly. You may wonder how I did survive the first few months. Here is what I do to stay positive and happy while working from home:
Learn to Accept your New Working Situation and Environment
When things are challenging and complicated, it is natural for us to feel negative. Everyone has negative emotions, after all. But instead of resisting, try to learn to accept your new working environment or situation. Think that everything will be all right, helping you take the pressure off and enable you to see things differently. If you cannot change something, it is time to let go of it.
Studies have confirmed that being thankful in our daily life is a quick path to a happy and positive outlook. Recent research also found that people who wrote sentences about what they were thankful for felt better and were more optimistic than those who do not. Although you have a hectic schedule, find time to write down things you feel grateful for. Trust me! You would feel better and more motivated to do all your tasks at hand every day.
Transform your Home into a Mini Office
It is perhaps your first time working from home. Maybe, you have not set up a home office before. But there is nothing to worry about. If I did it, you could do it as well. If you have an empty room, paint it with a new color, shop for pieces of furniture (tables, cabinets, chairs, etc.), decorate it with curtains, and put some pots of flowers to have some accent. That’s it. Remember, there is no rule to follow. You can decorate your space into something you prefer. While the process is challenging, you would learn to love it for sure.
Create a Routine and Be Sure to Stick to It
Working from home allows you to have more control over your work-life balance, especially when the schedule is flexible. That means you can work when you want. Despite that, you have to establish a routine and be sure to stick to it. With a routine, you are always on the right track. Plus, you can stay productive every day no matter what happens. At first, it is difficult to follow a new routine. But you will learn to love it as time goes on. So, do not feel pressured. Take your time.
Do Not Forget to Set a Boundary
While there are times that you need to work a few more hours than normal, it is important to set a boundary between your work and personal life. Remember, you cannot work every day for a week without taking a break. You may end up burning out. Although you still have pending jobs to complete, go out of your office and unwind. Spend time with your family. Prepare your favorite food and eat with your parents and siblings. You can take your day off watching your favorite action and horror movies on Netflix. You can play your sports or do your other interests. When you go back to work, you remain enthusiastic and passionate about your job.
Connect to Your Colleagues
Although you are working from home, try to build meaningful relationships with your colleagues. Open up topics that are not related to your work as well. Today, it is easy to communicate with people. You can use different applications, including WhatsApp, WeChat, Skype, Facebook Messenger, and more. Every time you catch up to your workmates, it builds relationships and keeps you sane in this time of the pandemic.
How long have you been working from home? How’s your experience? Are you having a hard time? If yes, there is nothing to worry about. You will adjust to your new working environment soon. Also, no matter how difficult your new working environment is, enjoy the process.
